What to Do for Fun as a College Student in Lubbock, TX
One of the many advantages of attending Lubbock Christian University is all the things there are to do – both on campus and in the surrounding area.
As an incoming freshman, you have reason to be excited about living in a town like Lubbock, which has plenty of charm and activities. With a good mix of modern and classic, Lubbock is a unique city that perfectly demonstrates West Texas friendliness.
What kind of activity awaits you? Let’s take a look:
Food & Drink
Don’t worry, you won’t get bored with the food during your time at LCU. Whether it’s the burgers at Christakis, Pad Thai at Bangkok Thai, or good ol’ barbecue from Evie Mae’s Pit Barbecue, recently rated in the top 10 BBQ joints in Texas by Texas Monthly. Lubbock has your appetite covered.
Be sure to check out the great study spaces that serve snacks and coffee, too, including Yellow House Coffee, Sugar Brown’s Coffee, J&B Coffee, and the largest Starbucks in Lubbock, right here on the LCU campus.
Considering that Lubbock is the city that gave the world Buddy Holly, it’s not surprising that it has an excellent reputation for music. The United Supermarkets Arena hosts major national and world-class musical acts (such as Paul McCartney) while there are many other outlets and venues in Lubbock that feature every kind of music imaginable.
Arts & Culture
Lubbock is home to museums such as the Buddy Holly Center (at 1801 Crickets Ave.) and West Texas Walk of Fame that attracts thousands of visitors each year. The First Friday Art Trail is open to the public and gives local artists a venue to share their work. You’ll also want to check out the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, which hosts a variety of local art and installations and the annual Flatland Film Festival.
Day Time Fun
There’s plenty to do if you want to take a break from your busy schedule and enjoy some free time. Buffalo Springs Lake is considered “The Oasis of West Texas” and hosts many events during the summer months. If you like to golf, Lubbock offers more than a dozen golf courses and disc golf courses.
Lubbock loves its holidays. From the annual Carol of Lights on Texas Tech University’s campus to the Fourth on Broadway parade and street fair, there are plenty of seasonal celebrations from which to choose. We hope to see you stop by the LCU Big Blue Family Christmas this year, too.
Things to Do on Campus
Last, but certainly not least, you’ll find plenty to do on LCU’s campus. The Rhodes-Perrin Recreation Center is a popular spot that offers a variety of programs and activities for students, while Blur is a special student-initiated worship service that occurs three times per year. There are also sporting events to enjoy throughout the school year, so prepare your gear and be ready to yell “Go Chaps!”
See y’all soon!
