Your Guide to Holiday Events at LCU and Why We Celebrate

Written by The LCU Blogging Team on Tuesday, November 28th, 2017 in Campus Life, my LCU

The holidays are always a special time of the year at Lubbock Christian University. It’s not only a chance to celebrate the season with our families but also a time to reflect on the loving community enjoyed on campus, regardless of the chilly air.

We celebrate the joy of Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ as we reflect on the year and give thanks for God’s faithfulness. We enjoy this season together as a community, making the message carry a deeper weight as we consider our blessings, our school, and our Lord.

Nov. 28: Big Blue Christmas

One of LCU’s biggest holiday events is our Big Blue Christmas, a family-themed Christmas celebration that allows our greater campus community to gather for food, music, and a celebration of the Christmas story. This year’s Big Blue Christmas will be November 28, and is our fifth year to host the event. Gather at 5:00 pm for dinner at the LCU Cafe, then walk around campus to enjoy different stations of hot chocolate, games, crafts, and more throughout the evening.

Our families and kids always enjoy the opportunity to share their Christmas wishes with Santa and pose with various Christmas characters. In the past, we’ve celebrated with themes like The Peanuts and an Elf-stravaganza, all to let children, families, and students get excited for this time of year.

Shortly after dinner, we’ll gather in front of the steps of McDonald Moody Auditorium to enjoy Christmas caroling and performances led by our LCU music groups. We conclude this event by sharing the story and importance of Jesus’ birth, celebrating the message of what Christmas truly is about. We then start a countdown to the Lighting of the Chap and Christmas tree outside of Moody Auditorium, a sight that helps us love this time of year on campus even more!

Nov. 30: Christmas Dinner Concert

Our holiday celebration continues on November 30 with the annual Christmas Dinner Concert. The LCU Friends of the Arts and the LCU Music Department invite you to join together for an evening of good food, fellowship, and music, including performances of all of the LCU Music Ensembles. This concert truly has something for everyone wanting to enjoy the Christmas season. The Christmas Dinner Concert takes place at the Baker Conference Center and begins at 6:30 p.m.

December 2: Christmas Special in Sweetwater, TX

The holidays are always a busy time for LCU’s musical groups. The university’s choirs and band will perform on December 2 at a Christmas Special held in Sweetwater, TX. In addition to performing in Sweetwater, our choirs have been given the opportunity to travel and will perform December 9-14 in Seminole, TX, along with four cities in New Mexico.

All Season Long:

This entire season is one that we enjoy greatly. Our students are excited for the chance of snow, and we all love celebrating the cooler weather and the upcoming breaks with family and friends. In all, we love that we can continually reflect on the deep and powerful meaning of Christmas and our chance to consider the magnitude and meaning of Jesus Christ’s birth in a manger so long ago.

So, join all of us at LCU in celebrating the holidays while remembering the real reason for the season – the birth of Christ and the glory of God’s word.
